Karpathos, GREECE:
On the Road with Nikos Economopoulos - 25 August - 2 September 2008
'On the Road' is a series of traveling photography workshops, combining freelance photography with the joy of the journey. They are organized for a limited number of participants, ranging from professional photographers to curious amateurs, who enjoy exploring places.
The workshops are based on shooting during the day and editing every evening. The use of digital photography facilitates the process of daily editing on the computer. Through the selection and discussion of the best images, the participants will have the opportunity to see their technique and their overall approach improve day by day. For those dedicated to traditional film photography the editing can be done upon return. The aim is to guide the participants through technical, theoretical and aesthetic issues towards developing their own photographic style.
In Karpathos we stay for a week, and each time the journey is geared around a religious feast, Greek Orthodox Easter in April and the Feast of Saint John in August. We will be staying either in Olympos or Diafani, in rented rooms, which are simple and very clean, and will be going around the island mingling with the locals, following the ceremonies as well as the social life of this remote island community. In Istanbul we stay for a week at a time, at a centrally located hotel, usually the Point Hotel on Taksim Square, the most convenient and easily accessible area. We meet for breakfast in order to make plans for the day, and then again in the evening in order to work together and go through the produced material. Istanbul offers a tremendous variety of photographic opportunities, from the crowded areas around the imposing historical monuments to the neighborhood-streets and the Bosphorus bridges. Local photographers often join the group, presenting and discussing their work as well as their own experience of the city. More info
